Cataracts – What Are They and What Can I Do About Them?

Cataracts are a medical condition in which the lens of the eye becomes progressively opaque, resulting in blurred vision. You may have trouble reading or doing other everyday activities. Most cataracts slowly develop when aging or injury changes the tissue that makes up the eye’s lens.

The good news is cataract surgery is a quick, painless, and safe surgery to remove this cloudy lens. You receive a new lens during surgery that also corrects nearsightedness and farsightedness. It is an outpatient procedure. Our excellent ophthalmologist that comes from Mayo Clinic, Dr. Sunil Khanna, performs the surgery and helps you select the type of intraocular lens that’s best for you.

For a vast majority of people, surgery restores vision and post operative complications are rare. After surgery, your first follow-up appointment will be scheduled, which will be 1 day after the procedure. Things may look blurry right after your surgery. This is normal. Your vision will gradually improve over the next few days and weeks, but a lot of people are able to achieve excellent vision only a couple days after surgery!
